Central Oregon is a great destination for winter sports and activities. Our home is centrally located giving you access to both Mt. Bachelor and Hoodoo Ski resorts. Below is a list of some of our favorite things to do in the winter.
Ski and Snowboard Resorts
Mt Bachelor
From our home it is about a 50 minute drive to the mountain. Bachelor offers some of the best skiing and snowboard in the pacific northwest. The higher elevation and lower moisture tends to lead to a light dry snow fall. Bachelor is the largest ski resort in Oregon with over 1000 acres. The season usually begins in mid-November and weather permitting runs through the end of May. With an average snowfall of 462″ per year, your group will have a blast on the slopes. With 11 lifts Bachelor has terrain options for all skill levels. Bachelor also has 5 Woodward terrain parks including a super pipe. Bachelor is owned and managed by Powdr Corp and If you are an Ikon pass holder you can get up to 5 days of skiing/snowboarding at Bachelor.
The resort offers ski rentals, lessons, and day lockers. Their shop also is always well stocked and will have anything you might have forgot or have been wanting to upgrade.
Mt Bachelor has a few food options were you can stop in grab a bite and drink and warm up, often featuring one of the many local breweries on tap If you would prefer to pack your own lunch there is access to microwaves in the main lodge. This season they are offering outdoor food carts as well.
Hoodoo
From our home it is about a 45 minute drive to the ski resort. Hoodoo is known for its steep slopes and cheap tickets. While it is a smaller resort than Bachelor it is still a favorite among locals and offers the option of night skiing. The five separate ski lifts give you the opportunity to access easy and difficult terrain including a terrain park for those looking for some big air. The resort has a spacious lodge and fully equipped rental fleet. Hoodoo also has ski and ride school in case you are looking to improve your skills before hitting the slopes on your own. Hoodoo only has one lodge so your dining options are bit more limited. Packing your own lunch is always an option as well.
